Water Sustainability - Project 2
Water: “I’m Yours.”
Water is all of ours to recycle, reuse and by only reducing the amounts of water we use to a minimum are we then able to make a change. Every drop is precious and can make a world of a difference.
Here, two girls are enjoying themselves as they collect rain water. They use very simple things which many most likely have – buckets, pails and umbrellas to capture as much water as they can for future use.
Edit: The image is much smaller than the original. I have, however, provided a link to a larger image below; it is also available in an album on the Student Server.
A bit of warning, the image is very large and may take some time to load: Project 2
I love the use of value in the umbrellas and in the background. I can really tell were the light is coming from in all the objects in your work. Everything has a 3-D feel too it. I had trouble with this in my work. I was wonder what program you used for your work?
I found the bucket in the left bottom corner to be out of place with everything else. I don’t know if you were just trying to meet the criteria. It just feels flat. If you lightened up the right side of it more or left it out completely. I found that to be my problem. I wanted my project to be very simple and to the point.
Your concept for this project comes across well.
I like the use of color in your background. It enhances your focus images. The color value in the background is well balanced to lend the direction of the light source. The color of the grass lends well to the light direction as well.
I think it would be cool to be to have little more of the blue value show thru the clouds just for an added effect.
I am interested in the story that inspired your concept. Where did you get your images?
You did a great job!!
4. How effectively was the concept of “green-ness” explored? Do you thing that this student used the element of value, texture, and color effectively to enhance the concept? How did the branding of the song interplay if at all?

The image of rain falling from the sky and being captured and saved by two young girls with upturned umbrellas and buckets explores both the greenness idea and need to save water to sustain life. The green grass foreground needs water to grow as do the two young girls. The four colors of the image are green grass, a gray sky, red and blue water buckets. The green grass and gray sky provides texture to the image. The text, “Save our water…” is white and contrast nicely with the dark variation of the gray sky. The text, “Every drop counts.”, is also white and contrast well with the dark variation of the green grass. The title of the song is Im Yours. Rain or water from the sky is yours if you use and conserve it wisely. The branding of the song definitely interplays with the image of rain falling which is yours for the taking. The elements of value, texture and color were effectively used to enhance both the “green-ness” concept and the branding of the song, Im Yours. Rain water is yours if you capture it interplays with the branding of the song.

2. What role does texture have in the composition? (Detail, pattern, space, and/or design). Be specific, if texture missing or weak include that also.
Wow, this piece is really amazing. Texture plays an integral part of the piece as a whole. The juxtaposition of the grass, verses the rain and sky help add to the composition as a whole. The grass leads the eye to each of the two girls in the center’s, while the sky horizontal lines adds to the depth of the grass. The textures allow the piece to move from a two-dimensional into a three-dimensional dimension. I really like this piece and think it does a great job of conveying a message that all water is precious. Great Job!!
3. How is color used in the overall composition? Which colors dominate which reinforce the concept? How is color value used in composition? Be specific and use terms related to color.
There wasn’t much color but, the color she does have fit the message she was trying to send. The cloudy smokey grey color is the most dominate to me to bring the concept of water. There is lvalue in the depths of the grass and in the clouds which brought out the image. Other than that there could have been a little more value. However, great job!
Project 2 Critique – Value
1.How is value used in the composition? (Creates 3-d, use of light and dark, mood, contrast). Be specific, if value missing or weak include that also.
I think that value is used very well in this picture. Light coming from the upper left corner really added calmness to this piece. I also noticed the movement of light from darker to lighter really makes the picture look very realistic. I love the way you implemented high contrast in this picture. I liked that the mood in the picture was playful and the way you demonstrated that was by lightness portrayed on the one side of the picture. Overall value played a key role in making this piece very interesting I liked it a lot.
