(Note: there will be a number beside two triangles next to the ‘pause’ button; it represents the number of seconds for each transition. The left arrow lessens the time while the right increases the time. )

Vivi,
3. How is perspective used in the overall composition? What type of perspective is used and how does it enhance the composition and/or the transition between steps?
Perspective is used primarily in the final image to give the appearance of a butterfly in a field of flowers. The composition uses one-point perspective to make everything seem to be moving to the right, as if a wind is blowing from the right. Perspective is actually enhanced because the first image seems to be the letter V atop some flowers and very 2D, but as transition progresses, the objects really stick out and add a 3D quality to the overall composition.

4 – Project 3 Critique – Metamorphosis
4. Describe what is potentially happening between the steps. How effective is the continuity between the seven steps, explain? If the continuity is not effective why is it not working?
Student Critiqued: Vivi
I don’t have to say what’s ‘potentially’ happening between the steps with Vivi’s piece because her metamorphosis is dynamite and perfect in its effectiveness. It seamlessly transforms from her letter and flower graphics to real flowers and a butterfly. Each separate image takes us one more flawless step toward the final image. The continuity is supremely effective.
It has been such a joy to have Vivi as a fellow student in this class. Vivi wonderful artistic style keeps me on my toes and working harder on my own pieces and the consistently high quality of Vivi’s images are always a joy to see.
Great job, Vivi!

1 – Project 3 Critique –Using Color
1. Name three ways using color enhances the chromatic metamorphosis from sequence to sequence?
Color was used to help create the chromatic metamorphosis from sequence to sequence by starting in frame one with blue circles and by the last frame turning into a blue sky. Another way was the orange flowers, started out small and turned into large flowers.

Question 4 – Vivi
Describe what is potentially happening between the steps. How effective is the continuity between the seven steps, explain? If the continuity is not effective why is it not working?
In this sequence the “V” is morphing into a butterfly. At the same time, the flowers transform from something that is symbolic to something more realistic and lifelike. The continuity of the transformation is incrementally smooth and effective.
I would have like to have seen more of a change in the background of the first three images. The transformation of the “V” to the butterfly seemed to be more consistent than the transformation of the flowers.
It was clever to use a butterfly as the subject of the metamorphosis project. I like it!

4. Describe what is potentially happening between the steps. How effective is the continuity between the seven steps, explain? If the continuity is not effective why is it not working?
Between the steps in this composition the sequences very stealthily transition from the letter to the natural element. From each sequence the viewer is given a full sense of what is transitioning, the transition is very well though out, which allows the viewer to understand what’s happening instead of being taken by surprise by a sudden change. The seven sequences share elements such as color and style but that adds to the transition by incorporating new elements to reach the next sequence. Great Job!

3. How is perspective used in the overall composition? What type of perspective is used and how does it enhance the composition and/or the transition between steps?
Vivi,
One point perspective was used throughout all the slides. I liked that in the first slide it was basic, with the V being the point of focus on a stylized background, as if we were looking at it head-on but by the end it was almost as if we were on the ground looking up through the flowers. The perspective in the last slide made it visually interesting and gave the butterfly a real sense of flight. The contrast between the first and last slides was greatly enhanced by the perspective change.

Balance/
What type of balance is used in the metamorphosis and what is the point of focus?
The balance between slides is awesome the focus on the letter V as if it was melting down contrast with the colors and values creating a centered balance altough the background of the first slides tend to be brown there is a hue of red to it that balances out with the cool blue and reds at the end of the slides. Great joob.
